Launching of Virtual Asset Technology Consortium
We are thrilled to announce the upcoming launching ceremony of our Virtual Asset Technology Consortium (VATC). This pioneering initiative aims to bring together leaders and practitioners from academia, industry, user groups, and government organizations to facilitate the exchange of information, insights, and advice on technical issues pertaining to virtual assets.
We are honored to have Prof. S.M. Yiu, Executive Director of HKU-SCF FinTech Academy, who will deliver a warm Welcome Speech during the ceremony. Additionally, Prof. H.X. Wang, Deputy Director of Strategic Centre for Research in Privacy-Preserving Technologies & Systems (SCRIPTS), will provide Opening Remarks, further enriching the event.
One of the highlights of the ceremony will be the unveiling of our VATC website, which will be made available to the public in this November. Furthermore, we have invited two experts giving two seminars helping us to delving into the world of virtual assets.

Dr. John Yuen
Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Engineering, HKU
Dr. John Tsz Hon Yuen is an assistant professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Hong Kong since 2018. Before joining the University of Hong Kong, he was a senior researcher at Huawei Singapore Research Centre. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Wollongong in 2010. His current research interests include cryptography, privacy-preserving protocols and blockchain. He has published more than 70 technical papers and has more than 10 international patents.
Talk Title: Virtual Assets: Applications & Challenges
Abstract: This talk will introduce the background information and the development of virtual asset and web3. We will give some use cases and applications of virtual asset. Then we will talk about the challenges and open problems in virtual asset.
